# Certified payroll for Knowify

Knowify tracks prevailing wage labor by classification and can print a federal [WH-347](https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/forms/wh347) (also covered in our [WH-347 guide](https://wellstanding.com/guides/wh-347/)). It has no path to the California DIR eCPR, and its own fix, a payroll switch to eBacon, asks you to hand payroll processing to a second system. We take your Knowify export as it is and finish both filings.

The short answer

No. Knowify tracks prevailing wage labor by classification and can print a federal WH-347, but it has no built-in path to the California DIR eCPR. Its eBacon integration requires running payroll through a separate processor, so you can keep Knowify and send its export to be filed instead.

- Knowify can generate a federal WH-347 from tracked prevailing wage labor, but its core prevailing wage pages, including its [prevailing wage software page](https://knowify.com/prevailing-wage-software/), describe Davis-Bacon and federal WH-347 output only.
- Knowify's [eBacon integration page](https://knowify.com/integration/ebacon/) names California and the DIR only for exporting a report through eBacon's separate payroll platform, not for filing the eCPR XML itself.
- Under [Labor Code section 1771.4](https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=LAB&sectionNum=1771.4), a contractor or subcontractor on a non-exempt California public works job must furnish its certified payroll records directly to the Labor Commissioner electronically, at least once every 30 days while work continues.
- A WH-347 printed from Knowify does not satisfy that California duty on its own, and neither does handing it to the general contractor.
- Knowify's labor rate templates have no field for the DAS 140 or DAS 142 apprenticeship forms, since both run on contract-award and dispatch-timing data, not on hours worked.

## What Knowify gives you

Knowify is job costing and project management software built for trade contractors: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, concrete, excavating. Its prevailing wage add-on lets you set up labor rate templates by craft and project, track field time against the correct wage classification, and roll fringe benefits and labor burden into the job cost. From that same tracked time, Knowify can generate a WH-347 certified payroll report directly. For a sub already running estimates and job costing through Knowify, that is a real head start on the federal filing.

## The California gap

Knowify's core prevailing wage pages, its [prevailing wage software page](https://knowify.com/prevailing-wage-software/) and its WH-347 material, describe Davis-Bacon and federal WH-347 output only, with no mention of California, DIR, the eCPR, or [Form A-1-131](https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/forms/pw/dlseforma-1-131.pdf). Knowify's [eBacon integration page](https://knowify.com/integration/ebacon/) does name California and the DIR, but only for exporting a report through eBacon's separate payroll platform, not for filing the eCPR XML itself. There is no built-in output matching what the DIR's [public works portal](https://services.dir.ca.gov/pw) takes in place of the iForm, and under [Labor Code section 1771.4](https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=LAB&sectionNum=1771.4), a contractor or subcontractor on a non-exempt California public works job must furnish its certified payroll records directly to the Labor Commissioner electronically, at least once every 30 days while work continues. A WH-347 printed from Knowify does not satisfy that duty on its own, and neither does handing it to the general contractor.

In September 2025, Knowify partnered with eBacon to close part of that gap. The partnership connects Knowify's labor rate templates and job costing to eBacon's payroll engine, which processes prevailing wage payroll, administers fringe benefit trusts, and generates certified reporting. That is a genuine integration, but it is also a different product: eBacon is its own payroll processor, with its own subscription, running your actual pay runs instead of whatever you use today. If you already run payroll through QuickBooks, a PEO, or in house, and just want Knowify's tracked hours turned into a filed California eCPR, adding a second full payroll platform is a heavier lift than the filing itself.

## DAS 140 and DAS 142, from the same export

Most California public works jobs also carry the [DAS 140 and DAS 142](https://wellstanding.com/guides/das-140-142/) apprenticeship forms, and neither runs on tracked labor hours. The DAS 140 notice is due within 10 days of the date you sign the prime contract or subcontract, or by your first day with workers on site if that comes sooner, under [8 CCR 230](https://www.dir.ca.gov/t8/230.html). The DAS 142 dispatch request needs at least 72 hours notice, not counting weekends or holidays, before an apprentice is needed on the job, under [8 CCR 230.1](https://www.dir.ca.gov/t8/230_1.html). Knowify's labor rate templates have no field for either one, since both run on contract-award and dispatch-timing data, not on hours worked. We prepare both forms from the same project details you already send us at setup.

## How our mapping works with Knowify

Export the certified payroll report, labor detail, or timesheet report Knowify already generates for your prevailing wage jobs. During the one time $995 setup we map that export: classifications to the project's wage determination, fringe and labor burden entries to the buckets the filings require, workers to projects. After that, each pay period: the same export in, a finished WH-347 with the Statement of Compliance staged for your signature, and a validated [DIR eCPR](https://wellstanding.com/guides/dir-ecpr-system/) XML back, rates checked against the published determination, a person reviewing every file. When a project needs the DAS 140 or DAS 142, we prepare those from your project details too. Knowify keeps doing what it already does well. We never touch your payroll processing or your money.

## Pricing, published

$995 one time setup. $249 per month flat for crews up to 25 workers, every project, every filing period, both forms, plus DAS 140 and DAS 142 when a project calls for them. Crews of 26 to 50: $449 per month. First filing free, done on your own live project before you pay anything. Between public works jobs, pause and pay nothing until the next award.

## Questions

Does Knowify file California certified payroll to the DIR?**

No, not on its own. Knowify tracks prevailing wage labor by classification and can generate a federal WH-347. Its core prevailing wage pages cover Davis-Bacon and the WH-347 only. Its [eBacon integration page](https://knowify.com/integration/ebacon/) does name California and the DIR, but only for exporting a report through eBacon's own payroll platform, and there is no built-in path to the state's electronic eCPR filing system from Knowify itself.

Does the Knowify and eBacon integration file the DIR eCPR?**

The September 2025 partnership connects Knowify's labor rate templates and job costing to eBacon's payroll engine, which runs payroll and generates certified reporting. It requires running your actual payroll through eBacon, a separate processor and subscription, not just an export from your existing system.

Can I keep Knowify for job costing and send you the export instead of switching to eBacon?**

Yes. That is the setup most Knowify subs use with us. Keep running payroll however you already do, QuickBooks, a PEO, or in house, and send us the certified payroll report or labor detail Knowify already produces. We map it once at setup and file from it every period after.

Does Knowify generate the DAS 140 or DAS 142?**

No. Both forms run on contract-award and dispatch-request data, not tracked labor hours. The DAS 140 is due within 10 days of signing the contract, and the DAS 142 needs at least 72 hours notice before an apprentice is needed on site.

What export do you need from Knowify?**

The certified payroll report, labor detail report, or timesheet export Knowify already generates for your prevailing wage jobs, by project and pay period. Send a real export during setup and we confirm it carries what your filings need.

Do I need Knowify's prevailing wage add-on to use this?**

No. We work from whatever labor and payroll export you can produce, with or without the add-on turned on. If you already have it, its classification tracking usually makes the mapping faster.
