# Certified payroll for Rippling

Rippling does not build certified payroll reports on its own. In July 2025 it [announced a partnership with Points North](https://www.rippling.com/blog/rippling-points-north-integration) that pipes your Rippling payroll data into Points North's reporting engine for the federal side. Neither company's own page for that integration names California's DIR eCPR filing. Here is what Rippling covers, what the Points North bridge adds, and what a California public works sub still has to file separately.

Last reviewed October 16, 2026 against the sources it cites

The short answer

Rippling does not produce California certified payroll on its own. It does not build certified payroll reports itself, and neither Rippling's nor Points North's page for their July 2025 integration names California's DIR eCPR filing, so a California public works sub still has to make that filing separately.

- Rippling's own [certified payroll explainer](https://www.rippling.com/blog/certified-payroll) pitches its time and attendance tracking and digital record retention, and does not claim Rippling generates a certified payroll report itself.
- Rippling's [own announcement](https://www.rippling.com/blog/rippling-points-north-integration) says hours, project data, and wages move from Rippling to Points North, which applies the prevailing and union wage rates and generates the reports.
- Neither Rippling's announcement nor Points North's [Rippling integration page](https://www.points-north.com/rippling) states that the integration produces California's DIR eCPR XML.
- Non-exempt California public works projects owe electronic certified payroll records directly to DIR, due [at least monthly](https://www.dir.ca.gov/Public-Works/ecprfaq.html), and submitting records to a union, a prime contractor, or an awarding body does not satisfy that duty.
- [Labor Code section 1776](https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=LAB&sectionNum=1776) requires the certified payroll record to carry a written declaration made under penalty of perjury, and that Statement of Compliance is the contractor's to sign, not Rippling's or Points North's.

## What Rippling gives you

Rippling runs payroll well and markets itself broadly, with [its own site](https://www.rippling.com/) highlighting global payroll, contractor and employer-of-record services, benefits, and a full HRIS, not a construction-specific product. What matters here is the export: Rippling's payroll runs produce the same underlying data any certified payroll filing is built from, workers, hours, rates, earnings, and deductions, and Rippling's own [certified payroll explainer](https://www.rippling.com/blog/certified-payroll) pitches its time and attendance tracking and digital record retention as useful for the hours and recordkeeping side of the job. It does not claim Rippling generates a certified payroll report itself.

## The Points North integration

That gap is why the partnership exists. Points North's own [Rippling integration page](https://www.points-north.com/rippling) describes employee records, compensation, and time tracking data transferring automatically from Rippling into Points North, supporting "federal Davis-Bacon requirements along with state prevailing wage regulations across all jurisdictions." Rippling's [own announcement](https://www.rippling.com/blog/rippling-points-north-integration) describes the same flow, hours, project data, and wages moving from Rippling to Points North, which applies the prevailing and union wage rates and generates the reports.

Read closely, though, neither page states that the integration produces California's own [DIR eCPR](https://www.dir.ca.gov/Public-Works/ecprfaq.html) XML. Points North's separate page for its [California Master Electronic Filing](https://www.points-north.com/state-by-state-certified-payroll-reporting/california-master-electronic-filing) capability lives elsewhere on its site, built for California's format specifically, but the Rippling integration page does not name it or link to it. What we read talks about the federal WH-347 and "state, and municipal levels" only in general terms, without ever naming DIR, the eCPR, or California. Whether Rippling data reaches that California-specific product is not documented where the Rippling connection itself is described.

## What still needs a separate step

- **The DIR filing itself.** Non-exempt California public works projects owe electronic certified payroll records directly to the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, and DIR's own FAQ is explicit that submitting records to a union, a prime contractor, or an awarding body "does not put you in compliance with the state unless you submit eCPRs directly to DIR." Filings are due [at least monthly](https://www.dir.ca.gov/Public-Works/ecprfaq.html), more often if the contract with the awarding body says so, a frequency also written into [Labor Code section 1771.4(a)(3)(A)(i)](https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?sectionNum=1771.4.&lawCode=LAB).
- **DIR registration, separate from any payroll platform.** Contractors and subcontractors must be [registered with DIR](https://www.dir.ca.gov/public-works/Public_Works_Notices.html) to bid on or be listed on a bid for a public works contract, with some exceptions for federally funded projects and joint venture bids, and separately, registration is required to work on a public works project awarded on or after April 1, 2015. Rippling and Points North do not register you. That step sits with the contractor regardless of what payroll software feeds the reporting tool.
- **The Statement of Compliance.** [Labor Code section 1776](https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=LAB&sectionNum=1776) requires the certified payroll record to carry a written declaration, made under penalty of perjury, that the record is accurate and that the employer has met its wage obligations. Whatever tool builds the report, that declaration is the contractor's to sign. Neither Rippling nor Points North signs it for you.

The integration may cover the federal [WH-347](https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/forms/wh347) (see also our own [WH-347 guide](https://wellstanding.com/guides/wh-347/)) cleanly for a sub who also works Davis-Bacon jobs. A California-only sub, or one splitting time between federal and state public works, still needs the state half answered, and the documentation for this integration does not answer it. Our side-by-side of the two forms is at [WH-347 vs eCPR](https://wellstanding.com/guides/wh347-vs-ecpr/).

## Rippling native, the Points North bridge, and WellStanding

| | Rippling, native | Rippling plus Points North | WellStanding |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Federal WH-347 | Not produced | Generated, per the integration pages | Done, staged for signature |
| CA DIR eCPR XML | Not produced | Not named on the integration page we read | Done and validated |
| Statement of Compliance | Not generated | Not stated on the integration page | Staged, you sign |
| DAS 140 / DAS 142 | Not produced | Not named | Prepared from the same export |
| Setup | Payroll platform you already run | Separate Points North subscription and integration setup | Any Rippling payroll export, no new subscription to run |
| Cost | Included in payroll | Points North pricing, not published; quote required | $995 setup, $249 or $449 per month flat |

## How our mapping works with Rippling

Send the payroll report export you already run out of Rippling, CSV or spreadsheet, whatever your configuration produces. The one time $995 setup maps your layout: earnings codes to straight time and overtime, fringe and deduction codes to the buckets the filings require, workers to the projects and crafts DIR expects. Every pay period after that, that same export comes back as a finished WH-347 with the Statement of Compliance staged for your signature, plus a validated DIR eCPR XML, rates checked against the project's published wage determination, a person reviewing every file. We also prepare [DAS 140 and DAS 142](https://www.dir.ca.gov/das/dasapprenticesonpublicworkssummaryofrequirements.htm) apprenticeship filings from the same export, see [DAS 140 and DAS 142 explained](https://wellstanding.com/guides/das-140-142/), when a project calls for them. Your Rippling account, including any Points North connection you already run, stays exactly as configured. We never touch your payroll processing, your taxes, or your money.

## Pricing, published

$995 one time setup. $249 per month flat for crews up to 25 workers, every project, every filing, both forms. Crews of 26 to 50: $449 per month, still flat. First filing free, done on your own live project before you pay anything. ## Questions

Does Rippling do certified payroll for California?**

Not on its own. Rippling's own certified payroll page pitches its time tracking and digital recordkeeping as useful for the hours side of the job, but does not claim Rippling generates a certified payroll report. In July 2025 Rippling announced a partnership with Points North that feeds Rippling payroll data into Points North's reporting engine, and the integration page for that partnership does not name California's DIR eCPR filing among what it produces.

Does Points North file California's DIR eCPR through the Rippling integration?**

Not as documented. Employee data, approved hours, and wages move from Rippling into Points North, which applies prevailing and union wage rates and generates reports, per both companies' pages for the integration. Those pages describe this in terms of the federal WH-347 and Davis-Bacon reporting, and speak of state and municipal levels only in general terms. Points North lists a California Master Electronic Filing capability on a separate page of its own site, but the Rippling integration page does not name or link to it.

If I use Rippling and Points North, do I still need to register with DIR?**

Yes. Contractor and subcontractor registration with DIR is required to bid on or be listed on a bid for a public works contract, with some exceptions for federally funded projects and joint venture bids. Registration is separately required to work on a public works project awarded on or after April 1, 2015. Either way, registration is separate from any payroll or reporting software you run. No payroll platform or its integrations complete that registration for you.

Do I still sign the Statement of Compliance if a tool builds my report?**

Yes, regardless of which system produces the report. Labor Code section 1776 requires the certified payroll record to carry a written declaration, made under penalty of perjury, that the record is accurate and the employer has met its wage obligations. That is the contractor's signature, not a software vendor's.

How often does the eCPR need to be filed once records are ready?**

At least monthly, and more often if the contract with the awarding body requires it, under Labor Code section 1771.4(a)(3)(A)(i). DIR's own FAQ adds that submitting records to a union, a prime contractor, or an awarding body does not satisfy this requirement, only a direct eCPR submission to DIR does.

If WellStanding files my eCPR, do I still sign anything?**

Yes. We prepare the WH-347 and the DIR eCPR filing from your Rippling export and a person checks each one, but you review the parsed payroll and sign the Statement of Compliance yourself. The certification stays yours.
