Certified payroll for Paychex
Paychex runs dependable payroll for thousands of trade contractors. Certified payroll is where its lane ends, and where a California public works sub needs a second system or a service.
What Paychex gives you
Solid payroll processing and full-detail reporting: registers and exports carrying workers, hours, rates, earnings, deductions, the raw material of every certified payroll artifact. If your Paychex reports are set up around your crews and jobs, everything the filings need is already in the export.
What it cannot do
Certified payroll support in the Paychex world runs through third-party construction compliance add-ons rather than the base product, and we found no native path to the California DIR eCPR XML. In practice a Paychex sub on public works either buys and drives a second product, or somebody in the office builds the WH-347 in a spreadsheet and types the state filing into DIR's portal by hand, every filing period, per project. The state side is the trap: eCPRs are owed directly to DIR on non-exempt projects, at least monthly and often weekly by contract, and the GC's portal does not satisfy it. Miss it long enough and the mechanisms in our penalties guide stop being theoretical.
How our mapping works with Paychex
You send the payroll report export you already run. The one time $995 setup maps your Paychex layout: your earnings and deduction codes, your overtime presentation, your fringe handling, your projects and crafts. From then on it is weekly routine: export in, finished WH-347 with the Statement of Compliance staged for your signature plus a validated DIR eCPR XML back, rates sanity checked against the project's published determination, a person reviewing every file before it reaches you. Your Paychex account, your taxes, your pay runs: untouched.
